Notes on To Kill a Mocking Bird – 8th chapter
Summary
The children experience their first snow in chapter 8. It is the first snow since 1885 in Maycomb County and therefore classes are cancelled. Jem and his sister are eager to build a snowman and they ask for getting all snow from Mrs. Maudie’s yard.
Atticus is proud about the result but instruct them to disguise it, because they made it look like their neighbour Mr. Avery.
At night Atticus wakes his children in order to go outside as the house of Mrs. Maudie is burning. The compelte neighbour is eager to get the fire under control but lately fail, because of the old fire engine and the bad equipment.
Although having lost everything Mr. Maudie is still very kind and able to laugh. She and Atticus let the kids know that the are to excited to realize the presence of Athur (Boo) Radley, who obviously covers Scout up in a blanket.
